Deep Winter in Hastings

Kolkata duo of Deep Sengupta and Arghyadip Das emerged joint winners in the Hastings Masters 2010-11.
Deep preserved his best for the last round where he overcame top seed Romain Edouard in a brilliant dispay of attacking chess in Sicilian Defence.
The tournament also witnessed a great show by younster Prasanna Rao who achieved his maiden Grandmaster norm.For full report see

Soumya Swaminathan wins the National Women's Premier

WGM Soumya Swaminathan won the National Women’s Primier Chess Championship at Bhuvaneswar ahead of former Champion Swati Ghate and youngster Mary Ann Gomes.


Joydeep Dutta wins Pilloo Modi all India Open 2010

Joydeep Dutta of West Bengal won the Pilloo Modi Open Chess Tournament at Lucknow which had a record prize fund of 25 Lakhs with 9 points in 11 rounds.Other players to score 9 points were Harish Sharma of Delhi,S.K.Rathore of M.P. and Rohan Shandilya of Jharkhand.
This tournament was not rated or recognised by AICF.

Negi is the new India Champion
