Ilyumzhinov wins FIDE election by 95 votes to 55
The vote took two hours, and the final count was 95 for the incumbent Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, 55 for the challenger Anatoly Karpov and three abstentions (four years ago Ilyumzhinov beat Bessel Kok by 96-54). The renewed victory was achieved mostly with votes from smaller federations in Asia, Africa and South America, while Karpov's votes came mainly from European countries. Read more here

Magnus pounds The World in RAW Chess Challenge
Magnus Carlsen beat The World, led by Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Hikaru Nakamura and Judit Polgar, in the G-Star RAW World Chess Challenge on Friday in New York. After reaching a positionally difficult position the World Team put up a stiff resistance but, in his aggressive but controlled style, Magnus emerged the winner in 44 moves and 2.5 hours.

It was a dream final: The World Champion vs the number one rated player in the world. Vishy Anand had scored a near-perfect 5.0/6 victory in the preliminaries, Magnus had finished at 3.5/6.
